The Cincinnati Swerve men’s soccer team is entering its second year of MASL 2 league play and hosts the 2017 Champion Chicago Mustangs in their season opener at GameTime Training Center on Saturday, December 1 at 8:05pm.

The first players joining the Cincinnati Swerve for the 2018-2019 season are seasoned veterans Emmanuel Adjei (D), Corey Whisenhunt (GK) and Christian Johnson (F), who all received All-MASL 2 Team accolades last season – 1st team, 2nd team and Honorable Mention respectively. Adjei was also called up to the US National Arena Soccer Team for a game this past May.

Cincinnati Swerve Head Coach Craig Rhodis is very excited about the upcoming season and has plans to return to the MASL 2 playoffs again this year. “We were happy with our results in our first season of the league last year, but we plan to build on our previous success by adding a few key players that can give our team a competitive edge. Our veteran players have also stepped up to elevate our play and it has been exciting to watch it all come together in practice. We certainly want to continue to provide opportunities for our players to play at the highest levels and put a team on the field that our fans enjoy watching.”

The Swerve will host six home games at GameTime Training Center during the 2018-2019 season.

Cincinnati Swerve finds major success in inaugural year of MASL2

The Cincinnati Swerve men’s arena soccer team found major success in their first year of the newly formed MASL2 league and plans several upgrades for the 2018 season.

The Swerve was created as an amateur soccer team in 2015 and was accepted into the MASL2 professional league for the 2017-2018 season. Here, the Swerve finished second in the Eastern Conference and lost to the overall champion of the league in the semifinals of the MASL2 playoffs held in Colorado Springs, Colorado this March. Four Swerve players were also recognized by the league with post-season awards.

Head coach Craig Rhodis was extremely impressed with the level of play from his team throughout the regular and post-season. “While we have a number of very experienced players on our team this year, we also have a ton of new talent and they all came together brilliantly, surprising a number of opponents on the pitch and securing a spot in the playoffs. We finished 9-3 in the regular season; undefeated in 6 games at home. We are excited to build on this success in the years to come and are planning a number of upgrades to enhance the overall experience for our players and our fans.”

Upgrades for the 2018 season will include a state-of-the-art video system to stream games online for those who are unable to attend in person, enhanced locker rooms for the teams and increased home game promotions.

The team also plans to add a Cincinnati Swerve reserve team, host a combine in April at their home site – GameTime Training Center – to scout both men and women for the National Arena Team pool and hopes to host a National Arena Team exhibition game in the near future.
